Jason Mraz is amazing and flying under the radar... August 30, 2008 Michael's Opinions (Boston, MA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Often imitated, but never duplicated! This is an infectious groove. It is also a challenge to learn the words... are you up for the challenge!? Jason is touring at the moment, so now is your chance to see him live, which is an even MORE amazing experience than listening to his music online, on your mp3 player or on CD.
Original sin August 28, 2008 Stefan Crane (KY USA) 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
This track is nothing more than an attempt to emulate the likes of Jimmy Buffet. This artist, and or record execs., want this to be cool. It isn't. This track isn't entertaining. The lyrics are horrid. The man's vocals are irritating and often harsh and loud. This track is shrill. It is not pleasant, at all. I suppose a couple of college people who think they're too cool to be understood, you know the rest. This is to fundamentalists what metal is to a goth.
Mr. A-ZZZZZZZZZZZ August 27, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Jason Mraz was a relatively unknown indie musician when he hit the pop scene nearly a decade ago. He had fresh, creative lyrics, and his "Remedy" has one of the best opening riffs. Ever. Mraz cleared the hurdles, standing on the pedestal to receive the medals of Top 40 radio. He went from being a coffeehouse guitarist to a hit singer. What happened?
"I'm Yours" is a cliched acoustic love song. It's got a catchy rhythm, to Mraz's credit. His lyrics are a pastiche of recycled romantic declarations. "Open your mind",instead of consciousness-raising,is a sleeper. There's a ukelele (courtesy of MySpace diva Colbie Caillat, who splits time between Malibu&Hawaii?) It's a pleasant, inoffensive song. Unfortunately, it's also bland. It's best as muzak.
"I'm Yours" is relaxing;best as background music for a double latte, but it doesn't command your attention. It's a remedy for insomnia.
Songs For Walking In Hawaii, Drinking Starbucks Coffee and Sleeping August 24, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was and still am a fan of Jason Mraz and his first two albums. He seemingly brought something a little different than all the handsome singer-songwriters in the form of some acoustic raps. After some disappointing sales efforts, Mr. A-Z has taken his show to the coffee shop, essentially becoming the singer-songwriter type he was trying to break away from. The result is an album full of uninspired, unoriginal coffee fueled tracks.
Chief among these caffine-fueled offenders is "I'm Yours," which, you guessed it, is a profession of a boy to a girl of ownership. Musically, it's an acoustic type track that you'd find in the Starbucks, which they're closing down your street. It also feels like it strangely belongs in Hawaii, probably because of the what I think is a ukulele in the song.
Overall, I can't imagine buying this, as it is seemingly under the label of "Background Music Only!" There just isn't enough in this song to sustain, and I personally wish it would refrain from itself. I personally don't know why it's a chart success, but Jason Mraz has certainly seen better days, and I don't know if he'll ever be able to go back to them after hanging out with Colbie Calliet. This acoustic love song stuff by singer-songwriters has been done so many times, XM Radio devoted an entire channel to it. It's all been done before, and frankly, it's been done better. See Cary Brothers for proof.
