Into The Night: Santana Style February 29, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
A Latin flavored rock song that's seems for the most part like a vehicle for both Santana and Chad Kroeger to stay in the radio spotlight, as it's released on a best-of album. And although this appearance is better than the last song they did together, this one still lacks. Vocally, Kroeger fits the song, and Santana plays some awesome riffs that keep you moving, and the song afloat. Without that amazing aspect, the song sinks with sub-par lyrics, however, you can only keep coming back to Santana's amazing guitar mastery and craft. A good song musically, a somewhat lazy performance vocally.
Fantastic vocals! February 19, 2008 Carmel K. Dunlap (PA) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
What a great song! I've never been a huge fan of Santana, he's ok, does a great guitar but I haven't wanted to rush right out and buy anything he's done in the past. (And yes, I am old enough to have been able to do so when he was quite popular). This song really made me take notice though! Chad Kroeger's voice is absolutely awesome, seeming to go right to your soul with his story of a man who falls in love with a woman. I DID immediately buy this song! I think Santana is trying to make a comeback and he is well on his way with the talent he has chosen to collaborate with. I hope to see these two together on another project sometime, I'm sure it would be fantastic.
Latin rocker meets his match-and there's no spark! February 18, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
Carlos Santana's status as a Latin rock god is rightly deserved. The son of a mariachi, Santana overheard Jerry Garcia playing at the Fillmore in San Francisco and was inspired to take up the guitar. He performed with Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead;he took the stages of the Monterey Pop Festival&Woodstock by storm. "Into the Night",sadly, isn't Santana taking his talents into a new arena, but collaborating with Nickelback's barely talented Chad Kroeger.
"Into the Night" is a cliched song about finding salvation with an angelic woman. Santana contributes a couple of electrifying riffs, but Kroeger dominates with his growling attempt at "singing." Santana is relegated to the sidelines;he's a supporting actor to an amateur. Thankfully, Kroeger hasn't become a legend.
Santana HAS collaborated with great talents-such as Mali's blues rock group Tinariwen,Benin's Angelique Kidjo, and Senegal's first super-group,Toure Kunda. Too bad they don't make it onto Top 40 radio. Check out "Black Magic Woman" instead.
