Luckless love July 13, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
Jason Mraz hit the scene early in the millennium with his big hit "Remedy." He showed some creativity in his wordplay, and brought a fresh sound to pop music. In his "Lucky" duet with cheese queen Colbie Caillat,it seems his luck has ran out. "Lucky" is quasi-country,with every cliche dredged up from the depths of the sea. Mraz sings about sailing across the sea to Caillat's island to put a flower in her hair. She sings about missing him. They sing "I'm lucky to be in love with my best friend" and how lucky they are to be with each other. Mraz hits the falsetto while Caillat sings in her happy face style. Nothing original. Jason Mraz, like his contemporary Gavin Degraw, seems to have lost his touch. "Lucky" is unlucky when it comes to an original melody, let alone original lyrics. If you hear "Lucky" endlessly piped in at work, you're unlucky indeed.
