Whitney Duncan definitely was a welcome site on USA Network's "Nashville Star" as the beautiful blonde vocalist from Scotts Hill, Tennessee reached fifth place on the televised competition. Since the show, Duncan was signed by Warner Bros. and has one major label CD single release with "When I Said I Would" and an upcoming album planned in 2009.
But with the Holidays coming soon, Duncan released a cover of the popular Mariah Carey Christmas song "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU". Let me say that Mariah Carey's version is quite awesome and I have heard various covers of this song (from around the world) that really haven't done it justice.
Having listened to Whitney Duncan's, fortunately I can tell you that her version is pretty cool and goes pretty conservatively in her own cover version and doesn't stray away from the musical style that made the original so popular.
Duncan's version has more of an electric guitar accompaniment towards the end with a slight hint of Country in terms of the musical arrangement but all in all, it's a pretty well-sung. I actually enjoy Whitney Duncan's vocals, it has a slight resemblence to Shania Twain and that is definitely not a bad thing.
Overall, a pretty fun Holiday release from Whitney Duncan.
Whitney's "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU" is available only via digital release and for the upcoming Holidays, if you're open to another cover version of the song, give her version a try. It's pretty cool!
