My favorite guilty pleasure December 2, 2008 E. Anderson With all the hype around Katy Perry, I had to check out what all the fuss is about. I recently acquired a copy of her cd ONE OF THE BOYS. I honestly didn't have any expectations for the album except maybe to not like it since I don't listen to pop music for most of the time. Much to my surprise, I found myself enjoying ONE OF THE BOYS. It is a fun, infectious pop/rock album and nothing more than that for me. The silly lyrics for the most part doesn't bother me but they do get on my nerves on songs like "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl" (which has outstayed its welcome in pop culture IMO). My personal favorite songs on the album is "Waking Up in Vegas" and the anthemic "Hot 'N Cold". I especially like the infectious pop hooks in "Hot 'N Cold". Katy Perry has a pretty decent voice although there are times on the cd when she is better off turning it down a notch or two on the wailing. Overall ONE OF THE BOYS is a fun album, flawed but still fun.
Mixed Bag November 27, 2008 KEEPitREAL (LA) There's a few killer, bouncy dance tracks here including the first two singles, but the remainder is a mixed bag, not quite as catchy, but worth a listen.
Catchy tunes November 27, 2008 Dera Hiragizawa This cd is pretty great for a debut album. Katy Perry knows her direction and she has her own style, and thats WAY BETTER than the other generic teenage pop stars who just pops pops pops. Highlights of this album are (in order): Hot & Cold, Lost, I Kissed A Girl, One of The Boys, Ur So Gay, Waking Up in Vegas. Recommended.

What's changed in cheap clueless teeny bopper market driven pop? Nothing. The more things change...
Total garbage! November 19, 2008 Dave (Waldorf, MD United States) 12 out of 21 found this review helpful
I can't believe all the 5-star ratings for this CD, this has to be a joke! I would give this 0 stars if I could. While somewhat catchy, the hyper-produced songs have a familiar radio-ready quality that becomes infuriatingly mind-numbing over time, and Perry's vocals sound like a less-soulful Kelly Clarkson at best, a drunken, spurned sorority girl at worst. Madonna and Perez Hilton may be fans, then, but if you've got even a passing interest in actually enjoying a record, don't buy this one.
