Hot item done perfectly right! August 21, 2008 R. Kallio (Smalltown, Wisconsin) I am basing my rating on the 30-second listening previews, only. I am active in the music biz and I know hits when I hear them. Compared to the enormous boatload of JUNK that exists in this music world of today, I love the catchy Pop/Jazz/Hip-hop style of Katy Perry's music AND the way she sings it. How refreshing! I do not view this as stereotypical Pop music. She has a certain unique style based on her voice and annunciation. This was also recorded and produced very well. Like the Van Halen boys and I agree, if it sounds good, it IS good! 'Nuff said!!!!
great purchase August 18, 2008 J. Revelle (st.louis, MO, USA.) love this cd. i ABSOLUTELY love it. she's hilarious in lyrics. spunky, creative and fresh, with a great voice. i recommend it.

So I love Katy Perry's new album....every song is deep and meaningful. She is an excellent writer and her amazing singing skills come out in every song. I love the variations in her voice and style. Every song shows another side of her.

God... Kate Perry has a terrible terrible voice. And she's singing about lesbian/gay theme songs. I Kissed a Girl and I liked it and You're so gay. She not even gay so what gives her the right to sing about lesbian this and gay that and having lesbian/gay friends doesn't give you the right to claim such experience. She writes about this shocking titled songs because the controversial topics she's singing about is what will sell the album.
I dunno.... July 31, 2008 David Romano (Lancaster, PA United States) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
It's a pop-hit, that's for sure. But...
"Ur So Gay"? Uhm, NO. Substitute the word "black" or "jewish" and describe your urban or frugal ex-boyfriend and you would be blacklisted in the musical world. I'm tired of "gay" being thrown around as a derogatory phrase. Grow up, already. It's not funny.
"I Kissed a Girl". Nice catchy song. But again, feeding into numerous stereotypes that aren't really cool, and by the way, why don't good girls kiss other girls? Sad attempt at shock-pop.
The rest of the album is good, but not great. Catchy tunes and music, sure, but not very memorable. "Mannequin" amd "Self-Inflicted" stand out the most in my mind as favourite songs. "One of the Boys" would be more enjoyable if it weren't being sung by a 23-year old, but it's something a teenage girl might dig. But honestly, I can barely remember most of the other songs.
It's only "ok" for me. Grow up a bit and maybe I'll enjoy it better.
