5 out of 5 stars Fun tune   April 18, 2008

I got this song for free from Starbucks when they had their daily iTunes download promotion. It was one of the few they had that I really liked because of the fun, skippy piano melody. Lately it's getting plenty of air-play.

On the Top 40 radio show, Seacrest mentioned that her label told her to write a love song for her latest album...she didn't want to...so there's the lyric! Very cute song!

I am an African American female and I love Sara Bareilles' 'Love Song' from the first moment I heard it. I love female singer/songwriters and she is #1 at the top of my list! She is a fresh new voice and I hope she continues to produce more music for an industry so in need of new talent.
I haven't heard the rest of the album but I'll keep in touch and let you know...

5 out of 5 stars A Suprising Song That Harkens Back To "The One I Love"   March 8, 2008

First off, Sara Bareilles is a great new musical talent, in the vein of the gaggle of female pop artist dominating the airwaves today. She sings great, and her piano work is incredible. The song could be compared to REM's classic, "The One I Love," in that, the title sounds, well, like a lovesong, but actually it's like a break-up song. Bareilles does a great job at creating a radio-friendly upbeat pop song. And it all seems to work. Just the other day, I heard the song twice within a span of 15 minutes, on completely different radio stations.

Overall, a great little pop tune from a big talent. Music just seems to be coming up with a ton of surprises lately, and this song is no exception.

5 out of 5 stars A mirror of the video version.   February 28, 2008

Much more things going on, production-wise than the version that I have downloaded to my computer. It's great though, gives it more personality.

The version I hear when I listen to it (downloaded version) has just the piano and vocals. Nice, but no production whatsoever. It's great, but not this. The video version is much livelier.

The song itself is pretty impressive though; it lets us know who Sara actually is; what she wants; needs and most importantly, how she thinks! Lyrics are subtly interesting and the piano work is somewhat infectious, albeit simple.

I've heard the samples here, and although they weren't enough to make me want to purchase the album, it doesn't take away from this awesome single and I will still give them another go someday!

5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars "I won't write you a love song"   February 19, 2008

Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" is a refreshing change- from its electrifying opening piano chords to her lyrics about a dysfunctional relationship. It's irresistible. It swings. It's not the usual "Love Song" despite the title. It's a cry against manufactured emotions (Bareilles is definitely taking on the prefab pop world) It's also a battle cry against manipulation in relationships. For a deep subject, Bareilles tackles it deftly&beautifully. "Love Song" isn't the usual old-fashioned love song. It captures your attention. It's raw&personal. It's a "love song" you'll love!
