In the Shadow of U2 May 12, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Linkin Park used to be the hybrid rock-rap group with socially aware lyrics and a creative streak. Now, they're an emo version of the Backstreet Boys/'N Sync meets the stadium rock of U2. It's true that rock groups change their sound, and a little change does them good.
In the case of Linkin Park,it's meant becoming bland. "In the Shadow of the Day" is typical easy listening. It's slightly anthemic, a subtle reference to U2. It's not plagiarism. "Shadow of the Day" is radio-friendly. Unfortunately, it's boring enough to be forgettable. The chorus is somewhat memorable. It's mediocre. Not great, not awful, but definitely something quickly forgotten.

Shadow for Some... Day for Others... March 27, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First off, while this song may have a close structure to a certain U2 song, it wouldn't be the first time a good song sounded like a good song, Boulevard of Broken Dreams-Wonderwall? What about Take Me Out-Paralyzer? The point is, not a big deal.
So anyways, the song has a nice buildup. It is a little slow, and the payoff may be less than satisfying, but Linkin Park is clearly going for a soft rock sound, to go in some background somewhere. Some people may like the sound, like soft rock fans, but fans of Linkin park will be like, WTH? "In The End" this is not. The vocals suit the song, the lyrics are good. Are they trying to go for a love song or something?
Overall, try first, maybe buy if you like. For me, it's just another song on radio I could really care less about. And definitely not one you want to hear all the time. Maybe every once in a while, but that's it.
Not typical Linkin Park, but I still enjoy it. March 24, 2008 NY Mom (NY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Definitely not what I expected to hear from Linkin Park, but that's OK, I sill like this CD. Most of the songs are slower, softer, and more mainstream that what LP has put out in the past.
I actually like the softer stuff on this CD, I think they were better written than the rest, but that's just MHO.
With or Without You March 1, 2008 TomMoff (Delaware) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This song is a blatant ripoff of U2's "With or Without You." If you don't believe me, then listen to them back to back.
